About Massage Therapy

Swedish or Holistic Massage

Massage has been used as a therapy for thousands of years and across many different countries and cultures.  What today is called Swedish massage, is based on a system of movements which were developed in the 18th century. Those same massage strokes are still used today.

Pregnancy Massage

I have undertaken additional massage training in Pregnancy Massage.  This massage may help to ease some of the muscular aches associated with pregnancy.

Possible benefits of massage:

  • De-stressing
  • Relaxes, tones and stretches muscles
  • Increases blood flow to the muscles
  • Improves circulation, which helps to nourish all the body tissues
  • Improves joint flexibility by reducing muscular tension
  • Increases lymphatic flow, thus aiding the body's immune system
  • Can help skin tone and the appearance of cellulite
  • Gives a sense of well-being
  • Good for muscular aches and pains

What to expect during a treatment:

Swedish massage is carried out directly onto the skin.  The client will remain in their underwear and the body will be covered with sheets or towels except for the part currently being worked on.  Oils are used to help with the massage movements.  The massage will start with gentle relaxing strokes, then they will change in style, to allow muscular tension to be reduced, and the session will again finish with soothing strokes, so that the client will leave feeling calm and relaxed.  The massage will be adapted to the clients individual comfort levels and requirements of the treatment.
