The Japanese word Reiki (pronounce ray-key) means ‘Universal Life Force Energy’.
During a Reiki treatment, you will remain fully clothed and it is normal to lie on a massage couch, however Reiki can be performed with you seated in a chair if this is more comfortable. The Reiki practitioner will move their hands over the body in certain positions, sometimes working above the body and sometimes touching the body. The Reiki practitioner is able to guide the 'Universal Energy' through their hands into your body. This energy then goes to where it is needed in your body to help it heal.
Different people sense Reiki differently. Some people may feel tingling sensations, some feel heat or cold. Some people may sense colours and some just have a feeling of peace and calm. Other people do not feel any sensation at all. This does not however mean that the Reiki is not working, it will still be entering the body, but the energy can be very subtle and may not always be noticed.
Reiki is not a spiritual healing and is not linked to any particular religion. Reiki is open to anyone.
